Alexandra Primary School

Otago

Alexandra Primary’s previously bare school grounds were brought to life with a new outdoor classroom, which incorporates the school’s original stone building. Hundreds of tussocks and hebes were planted, with a schist path that winds through the foliage and leads back to the little stone school. A kowhai grove and a mini orchard were also planted so the children can learn about the growing and maintenance of plants and produce.

The school’s students have a huge passion for the environment and were part of the whole process, from the design and concept through to the planting and digging.
