Nelson Central School – Nelson

Over 220 members of the Nelson community together with the Mazda Foundation and Project Crimson transformed an unused area at Nelson Central School into a sensory outdoor learning area.

The area features a sound wall built using recycled materials as musical instruments, a section dedicated to textures that the children can enjoy with their bare feet and jumping posts for balance and motor skills, as well as a giant hammock for relaxation. The space is surrounded in native shrubs, an edible garden, bird houses, weta homes and ladybird motels!

The School’s students are passionate about being environmentally friendly and the outdoor learning area will provide an area where children can explore and learn about the natural environment through different senses.
